Setup Settings

The SEIKOSHA FB-840 printer does not have any Dip Switches. The Setup functions are changed using the front LCD panel. Please refer to the printer manual for details of how to set these printers up.

The setup mode consists of the SETUP MODE and EXTENDED SETUP MODE. The SETUP MODE is used to set the parameters that can be saved in the format memories (memo 1 to memo 6). The EXTENDED SETUP MODE is used to set other parameters.

Entering the SETUP MODE, Press the SETUP Key to enter the SETUP MODE. To quit the SETUP MODE, press the exit key.

Basic Setup Functions

Function DISPLAY Function Description
1 Multipart Selects printing pressure. Improves the printing capability on multipart paper. Dark 2= up to Original + 8 copies
2 Head Adjustment Adjusts the gap between the print head and platen
3 TOF Adjustment Specifies the top of form (TOF) position
4 Page Length Specifies the page length of the form to be used
5 Paper Width Specifies the width of fanfold paper
6 Top Margin Specifies the length of the area at the top of the paper where printing is disabled in units of 1/6 LPI from the TOF position
7 Bottom Margin Specifies the length of the area at the bottom of the paper where printing is disabled in units of 1/6 LPI from TOF position of the following page.
8 Left Margin Specifies the length of the area on the left side of the paper where printing is disabled from the left end of the printable area
9 Right Margin Specifies the length of the area on the right side of the paper where printing is disabled from the right end of the printable area.
10 Quality Specifies character quality
11 Font Select Specifies the font of quality charaters
12 Character pitch Specifies the character pitch
13 LF pitch Specifies the line feed pitch
14 Zoom In/Out Specifies the magnification of enlargement (Zoom in) or reduction (Zoom Out)
15 Select Save Memory Saves the parameters specified using functions 1~14 in one of 6 Memory groups.
16 Select Load Memory Reads data from the specifiied format memory into the format memory currently in use

Extended Setup Functions

To Access the Extended Setup options press the SETUP key and ALT key simultaneously.

20 Emulation The prnter has three types of emulations, Epson LQ-2550, IBM 2391, HP Rugged Writer 480 (PCL3)
21 CHR TB HP Specifies the charcter table used in the HP mode
22 CHR TB EPSON Specifies the charcter table used in the EPSON mode
23 CHR TB IBM Specifies the charcter table used in the IBM mode
24 National Font (Epson) The printer has sixteen National Fonts - USA, France, Germany, UK, Denmark, Sweden, Italy, Spain, Japan, Norway, Denmark 2, Spain 2, Latin America, Korea, Turkey and Legal
25 Code Page The printer has seven code pages - CP437: USA, CP850: Multilingual, CP857: Turkey, CP860: Portugal, CP863: Canadian-French, CP865: Norway, CP864: Arabic, ISO-1: Western Europe, ISO-8859-1
26 AGM IBM Enables the alternative graphic mode (AGM) commands to be used
27 CR SETTING Specifies whether or not to feed a line when the printer receives a carriage return
28 LF SETTING Specifies whether or not to excute a carriage return when the printer receives a line feed (LF) command
29 ACCENT CHR Specifies the method of printing accent characters
30 ZERO STYLE This function allows the user to select Slashed or Not slashed
31 TABULATION The actual position of the horizontal tab depends on the processing of the selected emulation
32 PAGE LOCK Specifies whether or not to change the page length specified in the SETUP MODE by a software command
33 FONT LOCK Specifies whether or not to change the font selected in the SETUP MODE by a software command
34 PITCH LOCK Specifies whether or not to change the character pitch selected in the SETUP MODE by a software command
35 QLTY LOCK Specifies whether or not to change the character quality selected in the SETUP MODE by a software command.
36 CHR TBL LOCK Specifies whether or not to change the Character Table selected in the SETUP MODE by a software command
40 BC / L.CHR Specifies whether or not to activate the bar code and enlarged character function.
41 BC TYPE Specifies one of thirteen available types of bar code
42 BC SIZE Specifies the default bar code size
43 LARGE CH.SIZE Specifies the default size of enlarged characters
44 SETUP COMMAND Specifies whether or not to accept the software set up command
50 PCL MODE Specifies the emulation level in the HP mode
51 CHR TB2 HP Specifies the symbol set of the secondary charcter set in the HP mode
60 OPTION Specifies whether or not to install option
61 PAPER PATH Selects the paper path from among eight available selections
62 AUTO SCROLL specifies the automatic scrolling
63 P.OUT DTCT Specifies whether or not to perform paper bottom detection
64 P.SKEW DTCT Specifies whether or not to perform teh skew detection for checking whethre paper has been loaded manually on the skew
65 P.JAM DTCT Specifies whether or not to perform the paper jam detection
66 LF SPEED Specifies the line feed speed
67 CSF HA MODE Specifies the timing for executing head adjustment if the HEAD ADJUSTMENT option is set to AUTO.
70 INTERFACE Selects the parallel or serial interface
71 SLCT IN ENBL This function is used to control several printers
72 PARITY BIT Specifies the parity bit when the serial interface is used
73 DATA LENGTH Specifies the data length when the serial interface is used
74 STOP BIT Specifies the stop bit when the serial interface is used
75 PROTOCOL Specifies the protocol for the serial interface
76 BAUD RATE Specifies the data transmission rate for the serial interface
77 SERIAL ERROR Specifies whether or not to print asterisk
78 CTS ENABLE Specifies whether or not to validate the CTS (Clear to Send) signal
79 CD ENABLE Specifies whether or not to validate the CD (Carrier detect) signal
80 DSR ENABLE Specifies whether or not to validate the DSR (data set ready) signal
81 BUFFER SIZE Specifies the size of the input buffer
82 BUSY/ACK Specifies the timing of the BUSY and ACK signals transmitted via the parallel interface
83 DATA/LATCH TIMING Specifies the timing to latch DATA 1-8 at the falling edge (TYPE F) or rising edge (TYPE R.) of the strobe signal
90 PRINT DIR The printing directions shown below are available

PRE-DIRECTION: Bi-directional printing 1

BI-DIRECTIONAL: Bi-directional printing 2

UNI-DIRECTIONAL: Unidirectional printing

91 DISPLAY LANG Specifies the display language on the LCD
92 KEY LOCK Specifies whether or not to validate the keys other than the RESET key and ONLINE key in the ONLINE condition
93 RESET LOCK Specifies whether or not to validate the RESET key in the ONLINE condition
94 SETUP LISTING Prints the list of the parameters specified in the setup mode
