Helpful hints on printing to CD-R's with the

SEIKO Precision CDP-2000

1. We recommend that you record the data to your CD-R's prior to trying to print. This avoids problems with the Ink not drying properly and getting stuck inside your CD Writer/Player.

2. Install the SEIKO Precision CDP-2000 driver using the following settings;

a) Paper Size A4

b) Under Advanced settings, Photo Quality InkJet paper and Photo Enhancement.

c) Apply and save settings as default

3. Install CorelDRAW (unless you already have a later version). The CorelDRAW v4 software supplied is a fully upgradeable product, but is a Windows v3.1 product. This works fine under Windows 9x but will not work under NTv4. To upgrade to our NT pack (which includes CorelDRAWv7OEM and NT Drivers and templates) please contact your dealer, Cost GBP30+VAT.

4. Open the file SPCD2K_?.CDR (for AVD or SEIKO Precision printable CD-R's) or OTHCD2K?.CDR (for other brands). Create a rectangle on Layer 1, then fill with a very pale colour. Print this to paper to ensure the driver has been correctly installed, and the computer is properly set up. Now print this to one of the dummy CD-R's, if this is not aligned then either,

a) adjust this file on the mask and template layers (for information on this try www.avdcs.co.uk , Technical, FAQ's, Colour CD Printers, CorelDRAW hints)., or

b) Download the most up-to-date templates from www.avdcs.co.uk/cdprinter.html using the blue Template button.

5. Adjust the mask layer (and relock) then re-use the dummy CD-R using progressively darker colours until the print positioning is correct. Once you are happy with the positioning you can delete the rectangle and save this file to your hard drive as a master file.

6. When creating your designs try to avoid very dark or saturated colours particularly in the middle 43mm. This is the area which comes into contact with the CD Writer/Player. Choosing a slightly paler colour and or reducing the saturation of a graphic will make little difference to the appearance but will greatly enhance the possibility of the CD-R being able to absorb the ink. Remember that the printable surface on the CD-R is much thinner than paper so can absorb that much less ink.

7. Always specify InkJet printable CD-R's. These vary greatly in print quality. AVD with SEIKO Precision have spent a long time researching and improving the quality of their print surfaces and we certainly recommend for best results that you specify AVD printable CD-R's.

8. After printing leave the CD-R's to dry in an airy environment, under an Electric fan, and/or by an open Window with a breeze is ideal. After approx 30~45 minutes the ink should be dry, or nearly dry. The longer you leave the CD-R's at this stage the better, as the ink will harden more. Turn off the fan and/or close the window.

9. Apply the Colour Fix Spray evenly using two or three thin layers. Then leave the CD-R's to dry in an airy environment - see above. After approx 10~30 minutes the spray should have hardened and the CD-R's are ready to use. For best results and to avoid problems however, we recommend that the CD-R's are not used until the next day.

Happy printing! Remember that the CDP-2000 can print to paper, CD-R's, Bottom Inlay cards and Jewel case booklets as standard. With the addition of an adapter kit from AVD you can extend the capabilities to print to plastic cards, Business card CD-R's, Mini CD-R's etc. Please contact your dealer for details.
