General Questions: Q - What is the warranty and support? A - One year parts and labour. Technical Support (for 60 days from your first call) Q - What is the difference between the SLP Pro and SLP EZ30? A - There are three major
differences:
Q - What is the SLP Plus? A - The Smart Label Printer Plus was the predecessor to the EZ30. Both printers are functionally equal. The differences are primarily cosmetic. Q - How does it connect to my computer? A - On a PC, to a serial port. On a Mac, to the modem or printer port. Q - What if I don't have an available serial port on my PC to connect my Smart Label Printer to? A - You can add a Serial Board or a Multi-Port Board (with serial ports) to add more serial ports to your PC which cost as very little . Or you could use a (Serial) Switch box to connect two devices to one serial port. Q - What is included with the printer? A - The Smart Label Printer comes complete with software, cable, power adapter, user's guide and a roll of labels. Q - What is the print speed? A - About 6 seconds per label on the Pro and 12 seconds on the EZ30. (average speeds for an address on a SLP-2RL label) Q - What is the resolution of the SLP printers? A - The Pro is 203 dpi. The
EZ30 is 72 x 138 dpi About Labels Q - What are the Labels Supported by the Smart Label Printer EZ30? A - Standard Address Labels (1-1/8" x 3-1/2") in white, clear, blue, yellow, and pink and green The Smart Label Printer Pro supports a variety of labels sizes and types. Q - What do the labels cost? A - Dependant upon size chosen, but a few pence per label. Q - Can I use any labels in this printer? A - No, you should use Genuine Seiko Instruments SmartLabels. Labels are Direct thermal labels, other so called compatible labels have been known to cause problems and product burn-out. Seiko instruments labels are available from retailers and mail order catalogues across the UK. Q - How long will the labels last? A - Without prolonged exposure to light or heat, our labels will last for years. Q - Why do SII labels cost more than average labels? A - SII labels are thermal labels, so the printer does not require any ink or toner. Not having to purchase ink or toner eliminates those hidden costs and reduces your overall costs. Q - I've used your labels and they fade quickly. What's the problem? A - When exposed to prolonged
light or ultra-violet radiation, the thermal label stock will cause the mate
to fade. With normal usage, this is not a problem. Also, when used on vinyl,
thermal stock, like our labels, will fade due to gasses emitted by the vinyl.
Do not use our labels on vinyl. Operating Systems Q - Does it work under Windows95 or Windows/NT? A - The Windows/DOS version
runs under Windows 3.1x, Windows 95 or DOS. Windows/NT is not yet supported. However, a third party has written a driver and has made it available on the web: www.somarsoft.com. SEIKOSHA are not responsible for and does not guarantee proper operation of any third party driver or application. Q - Does it work on a Macintosh? A - Earlier version of the
SLP Pro and EZ30 were supplied as Macintosh printers. However, with the various
levels of the MacOS we were faced with constant changes to our software.
MAC support has now been dropped from all SLP products. Uses for the SLP Q - Does it print barcodes? A - Yes, it prints barcodes. It also ships with 4 barcode fonts (UPC-A, Code 39, EAN-13 and USS-12/15). It also supports POSTNET, the US Postal barcode for faster mail delivery. Q - Can these printers be shared on a network? A - The Pro model, with our
optional SLP Pro
Network Printer Sharing Kit , can be shared on a Netware, LANtastic or
Windows for Workgroups network. SLP Software Q - Do you HAVE to use the SLP application software to print on the Smart Label Printer? A - No, under Windows you can use our Windows printer driver and print from any Windows application. Q - Can I import names and address from my database into the SLP application software and can I export names and addresses from the SLP application software into my database? A - Yes you can import and
export from the SLP application software. SLP Maintenance Q - Will I need to replace the ink in the printer? A - No ink or toner is used. The Smart Label Printer has a thermal print engine. Similar to fax paper, the labels are coated with a clear thermal coating which turns black when the printer heats it. This also allows for very crisp, sharp images on the labels.
